5 Things To Know About Cameras And Wedding Dress Shopping

If you're in the market for a wedding dress, you may have heard the advice to bring a camera while you shop. Here are some things you should know about photography and wedding gown shopping.

Not All Boutiques Allow Cameras

Some wedding dress boutiques allow you to bring in a camera and photograph yourself in potential dresses. Others do not allow this for several reasons. First, there may be privacy issues if other brides are shopping at the same time as you. Second, there may be proprietary issues with name brand dresses. Finally, the boutique may want to create a relaxing environment that cameras are not always great for. Because of this, it's important to call ahead and ask if you'll be allowed to snap photos of your favorite options and whether there are rules regarding pictures. Some boutiques allow cameras for fittings but not for initial shopping.

Be Judicious In Your Photography

While trying on dresses can be a lot of fun, try not to make a full fashion show out of it. Instead, snap a few photos of your absolute favorite dresses. This will give you a few options to choose from later without making you feel overwhelmed with choice. One or two photos of three dresses should give you plenty to remember the dress when you're making your final decision.

Don't Disregard Your Feelings

While it's important to look good, it's also important that you feel good in your dress. Your dress should be authentic to your style and personality and make you feel confident. If you aren't excited about a dress, skip it, even if it makes you look great in pictures.

Pictures Don't Have to Be Professional

Whether you're deciding on a dress or going in for a final fitting, you don't have to bring along a professional photographer or even a great camera. Most phone cameras will be good enough for these pictures. Keep in mind, these pictures are not your "getting ready" pictures, which will be taken on the day of the wedding. They are only for you and your close friends to make critical decisions about your look.

Keep the Photos to Yourself

Although it may be tempting, refrain from teasing your dress on social media. Not only does it break the tradition of not seeing the bride's gown before the wedding, but it may also seem a bit tacky to your friends. Wait until after your wedding and share the photos of you on your special day.
